Vilsund Blue is proud to offer a wide range of mussel and cockles products, harvested in the fjords of Denmark. Our company delivers not only fresh mussels, but also preserved mussels in jars and cans, IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) mussels, as well as mussel powder and mussel juice. These products are available to meet the needs of consumers and businesses both locally and internationally.

One of the unique aspects of our company is our commitment to using every single part of the mussel. From the meat to the shells, we believe that every part of the mussel has value and should be used in a responsible way. This approach not only helps reduce waste but also ensures that our products are as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible.

When mussels are harvested, undersized ones are returned to the fjord, allowing them to grow larger and ensuring a healthy, sustainable mussel population. This helps keep the fjord’s ecosystem balanced and thriving.

During the summer months, mussel waste is repurposed as fertilizer for local farmers’ fields, enriching the soil with natural nutrients. Even the cooking water from the mussels is reduced and transformed into mussel powder or juice, giving it a second life in kitchens to enhance the flavor of dishes.

Additionally, the mussel shells are not discarded but find new uses such as in flooring and insulation materials, ensuring that nothing is wasted in the production process.

Vilsund Blue A/S employs 70 dedicated workers at its three industrial sites in Nykøbing Mors.

SAFETY

Vilsund Blue A/S production undergoes regular inspections by Danish food safety authorities, which assess our products according to some of the most stringent requirements in the world.

MSC-CERTIFIED MUSSELS

Vilsund Blue A/S was the first mussel producer in the world to be certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), which recognizes and rewards sustainable fishing practices.

MSC is a worldwide organization collaborating with fisheries, the fishing industry, researchers and other bodies working with nature and the environment, as well as national authorities, to promote the production of organic fish and mussels.

Since our first certification for our Limfjord mussels, we have also obtained MSC certification for Limfjord cultivated mussels and for our mussel fishing on the Danish East Coast.
